Bienvenue
I'm Rachel Sunter, a lifetime pianist, vocalist, composer, performer and producer. Alongside performing and touring, I've been teaching for 10 years, formerly in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and now in Montreal.

I'm a Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) certified teacher, meaning I'm trained to put students through formal RCM exams and Kiwanis competitions (always optional.) Visit my RCM profile here.

J'ai un héritage billingue, avec une mère Parisienne-Montréalaise, et un père Australien - mais j'enseigne d'habitude en anglais - sois avec la système française Do-Re-Mi, sois avec A-B-C. Je respecte les besoins des familles bilingues.
Teaching Style & Background
I was taught piano from the age of 5, achieved my RCM Grade 9 in voice and piano by the time I graduated high school, and consider myself grade 10 in both now. I began touring and performing professionally at 21, in Canada and the US, and am now 15 years into my performance and songwriting career. I have excellent sight-reading abilities and play just as comfortably by ear. Watch my most popular Youtube performance here.
I teach a broad variety of styles - pop, rock, opera, r&b, soul, folk, musical theatre - to lots of adults, kids and teens. In Montreal I teach many adults beginner singers - people of every age and background - and we do optional performance classes every couple of months, to perform & share songs with each other. I also teach some very bright kids and teens, who often progress to study voice, piano, and songwriting with me.
I seek to understand each student's motivational & learning style to help them reach their goals. My teaching is based on fun and inspiration, backed by discipline and technique. I teach with and without sheet music based on aptitude and preference; some people learn more quickly by ear.
